10. Baker bakery company just began business and made the following four inventory purchases in june: june 1 150 units $ 1,040 june 10 200 units $ 1,560 june 15 200 units $ 1,680 june 28 150 units $ 1,320 $ 5,600 a physical count of merchandise inventory on june 30 reveals that there are 210 units on hand. using the fifo periodic inventory method, the amount allocated to ending inventory for june is a. $1,456 b. $1,508 c. $1,824 d. $1,848

Answer:

B

Step-by-step explanation:

Using the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) method, we assume that the first units purchased are the first ones sold, and the last units purchased are the ones that remain in inventory. Therefore, we need to allocate the cost of the inventory purchases in the order they were made until we reach the 210 units on hand on June 30.

The cost per unit for each purchase is as follows:

• June 1: $1,040 ÷ 150 units = $6.93 per unit

• June 10: $1,560 ÷ 200 units = $7.80 per unit

• June 15: $1,680 ÷ 200 units = $8.40 per unit

• June 28: $1,320 ÷ 150 units = $8.80 per unit

To allocate the cost to the 210 units on hand, we need to start with the oldest units purchased and work our way up:

• First, allocate the cost of the 150 units from June 1: 150 units × $6.93 per unit = $1,039.50

• Then, allocate the cost of the next 60 units from June 10: 60 units × $7.80 per unit = $468.00

• Finally, allocate the cost of the remaining 210 - 150 - 60 = 0 units from June 15 and June 28: 0 units × $8.40 per unit + 0 units × $8.80 per unit = $0

Therefore, the amount allocated to ending inventory for June is $1,507.50, which is closest to option (b) $1,508.
